Formulating a Response: Summary of Original Article and Letter to the Editor

The article that I have chosen for this blog assignment deals with the proposed bill that would allow students to carry guns at universities which would legalize guns. On Friday, March 11, the Georgia Senate voted to legalize firearms on all public colleges in Georgia. However, this decision was not reached easily. There was an emotional appeal on the Senate floor for two hours over a debate of whether to let students carry concealed guns on campus. Now this bill will go to the desk of governor Nathan Deal who can easily sign the bill into law. Specifically, if signed, anyone aged 21 or older with a carry license can carry a gun anywhere on a public or university campus, except inside dormitories, fraternity houses, athletic events, and sorority houses. It would also call for the weapons to be remained concealed. In the letter to the editor
Tim Fuller in Atlanta disagreed with the specifics of the legislation. He believes that people should be able to carry concealed weapons on campus. However, he disagrees with the aged requirement. He believes that students aged 16 to 20 should be afforded the same rights of anyone aged 20 or older to protect themselves from murder, rape, robbery, and mayhem.

Blog 4: My Relationship With Literature

My relationship with literature has been both for purposes of academia and pleasure. Now, in my life, I read the newspapers, books, and journals on any topic that I desire to read. Usually, my interpretation stems from what I think the author is trying to convey by how the author is speaking within the text. Usually, fiction novels are my favorite because it allows creativity among the writer. It also allows the reader to have a vivid imagination while reading the text. John Gresham is my favorite writer and he is able to describe the settings in his story as he narrates the plot. He is able to use many rhetorical devices in order to bring the reader in to the story. Gresham is also able to develop his characters and use them effectively in order to portray the plot and tell the story that he wants to tell. In regards to academia, I have had to read less fiction and more nonfiction. I have had many interpretations of literature and to me literature is a body of written works written by authors who try to convey a message through the use of rhetorical devices. So being that said, I believe that any work is a piece literature. Sometimes, I feel in school that sometimes we are forced to read certain types of literature by professors. But I can say without a doubt that because of this my writing has gotten so much better. I remember struggling at first because I was so used to only writing summaries and not analyzing the text. But I soon grew out of that and then my writing was able to expand and grow. I know that any Edgar Allan Poe novel is hard to interpret because Poe is crazy. But any other authors are fairly easy to comprehend in terms of my interpretations of their texts.
